The five maintenance methods for 14K gold jewelry

1. Prevent chemical erosion: Put on the earrings only after applying makeup or spraying perfume. Also, remove them when doing housework and coming into contact with cleaning agents or dish washing liquids. Since perfumes contain alcohol and fragrances, and cleaning agents have acidic or alkaline components, contact with these substances will corrode the surface coating of 14K gold, causing the color to fade.

2. Gentle cleaning for renewal:  Soak the earrings in mild soapy water (neutral detergent + warm water). Gently brush the gaps and inlaid parts with a soft - bristled brush (such as an old toothbrush), rinse with clean water, and then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid using hard brushes or highly irritating cleaning agents to prevent scratching the metal and gemstones.

3. Proper storage for protection: When not wearing the earrings, place them separately in a soft cloth bag or jewelry box, keeping them away from other hard objects. Also, keep them away from damp and hot areas like bathrooms and kitchens. Humidity can cause the metal to oxidize, and high temperatures may lead to the loosening of inlays or the deformation of the metal.

4. Reduce physical damage: Take off the earrings before exercising, swimming, or taking a hot spring bath. During exercise, the large movements of the limbs can easily cause deformation; swimming pool water contains chlorine, and hot spring water has substances like sulfur, which will have a chemical reaction with 14K gold, damaging the material and color.

5. Regular professional maintenance: Check monthly whether the inlay of the earrings is loose or has any minor deformation; at least once a year, send them to a professional jewelry store for comprehensive cleaning, inspection, and repair. Professional stores can deeply clean the dirt in the gaps, repair minor damages, and extend the lifespan of the earrings.
